What this helps you do
Run Git, tests, and installed command-line tools beside the active checkout.
Open a repository and choose Terminal at the bottom of the workbench.
Before you start
Free includes terminal tabs in one active checkout. Pro keeps shells running across repositories and worktrees.
Steps
- Choose Open terminal to start your default shell in the selected checkout.
- Create or rename tabs; search output, copy a selection, or interrupt a foreground command.
- Switch views without ending sessions. Close a terminal to stop its shell, or confirm stopping all sessions when quitting.
Expected result
Terminal sessions stay attached to their original checkout and changes refresh in the workbench. Output is kept in bounded memory and is not restored after an app restart.
Controls
terminal.openStarts the default shell in this trusted checkout; tabs remain alive during navigation.

Recovery
If a shell exits, restart it. If another checkout has a running terminal on Free, close that session or use Pro. Commands run with your normal user permissions.
